What is a debit card?
The Security State Bank debit card is an enhanced version of the SSB ATM card. In addition to ATM use, it can be used in place of writing a check or using a credit card to purchase products and services from more than 18 million MasterCard merchants displaying the MasterCard logo.
What are the advantages of having an SSB debit card?
- Primarily, the debit card is faster, safer, and smarter than using checks, cash or a credit card.
- You’re able to “write a check” without carrying a checkbook.
- You can use it as a cash card at an ATM.
- It eliminates the hassle of showing multiple forms of identification when writing checks.
- You can use it anywhere you travel; you don't have to worry about a check not being accepted out-of-state or out-of-country.
- The monthly statement is easy to balance, with the description of both ATM usage and merchant purchases detailed on the statement.
- You have access to the MoneyPass and MasterCard ATM networks.
How does the SSB debit card work?
At an ATM, the debit card works just like an ATM card. Use your PIN to access your account. When using the debit card to purchase products and services, the merchant looks for the MasterCard logo and processes the transaction in the same way a credit card transaction is processed. You are required to sign the receipt. The difference is that the dollar amount of the purchase is deducted from your checking account.
Can I select my own personal identification number (PIN) for my debit card?
Yes, you may select a new PIN after receiving the card.
How should a cardholder record debit card transactions?
You will receive a receipt from either the ATM or the merchant. The cardholder should record the amount in his or her checkbook register and retain the receipt. The checking account statement will list the amount and the ATM or merchant location.
What accounts can I access with my debit card?
When the card is used to make a purchase, it can only access funds from the cardholder's primary checking account. When it is used at an ATM, the cardholder can access either his or her checking or savings account.
How long will it take a purchase to be debited from my account when using a debit card?
A debit card charge debits the account immediately at the time of purchase. The charge may show in a pending status for 1 or more days before "hard posting" to the account.
What is the daily limit for a debit card?
- $500.00 at ATMs
- $2,500.00 for merchant purchases
