Business Development Officer / Commercial Lender

Position Summary

Originates new commercial relationships through business development activities.  Develops and maintains strong working relationships to cultivate a profitable customer base and clientele.  Makes credit decisions independently within established lending limits.  Combines a thorough knowledge of bank's products and lending policies with excellent customer service; understands regulatory compliance issues related to the lending environment and demonstrates strong experience in financial statement and cash flow analysis.

Essential Functions

  • Develops and implements a commercial sales plan to achieve sales and profitability objectives outlined in the banks sales program expectations.
  • With each customer interaction in person and on the phone, seeks opportunities to deliver excellent customer service, answer questions and respond to requests; troubleshoots and solves problems; promotes all business account services; educates customers in using products to deepen relationships and satisfaction
  • Maintains intimate knowledge of the bank's business related products and services and cross-sells appropriate products and services to clients based upon their needs
  • Leverages community involvement to develop new customers for business banking services
  • Compiles loan package and facilitates negotiation of loan structure with applicant, including fees, loan repayment options, and other credit terms; approves loan or refers loan to the appropriate approval authority
  • See loan application through to completion, including interviewing applicants; requesting specified information; analyzing credit reports, background and reference checks, appraisals, and other essential information to determine feasibility of loan; working closely with credit analysts for recommendations; and resolving questions regarding application
  • Performs loan servicing duties to ensure conformity with loan terms and conditions; assists in collection of loan delinquencies in a timely manner; recommends appropriate denied loans for exception approval
  • Recognizes and escalates potential problem loans and works closely with customer to create loan structure/work out plans to minimize any potential losses to the bank
  • Understands and adheres to all applicable federal and state laws and regulations including, but not limited to, the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) and related anti-money laundering laws, and the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC)

Secondary Functions

  • Monitors portfolio performance and takes action necessary to ensure compliance with goals/standards for watch list credits, charge offs, loan documentation exceptions, loan servicing exceptions and CRA activity
  • Maintains a productive working relationship with organizational partners and other corporate divisions, bringing sales partners into client relationships as needed to manage the total financial services relationship for customers and prospects
  • Represents the organization in various civic and community functions to further enhance the bank's image and development of additional business

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, or related field
  • Minimum five years of business or commercial lending experience
  • Ability to successfully complete internal training programs around, and maintain ongoing education in: compliance, bank operations, services and products; industry regulations; and policies and procedures
  • Ability to maintain proficiency in software related to job responsibilities

Physical Requirements

While performing the responsibilities of the job, the employee is required to talk and hear.  The employee is often required to sit and use their hands and fingers, to handle and feel.  The employee is required to stand for long periods of time, walk, reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, and to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.  Vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to view the computer for long periods of time.  Employee must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.
